THE ONION, DECIDER TWIN CITIES
"Given the remarkably polished pop songcraft that Pictures of Then exhibit on And The Wicked Sea, here's a band that seems destined for bigger audiences and greater acclaim."
Featured on the Paste Magazine Emerging Artist channel on E-Cast.
"An amazing blend of reverent classicism and modern vision, and The Wicked Sea is loaded with glittering pop diamonds that are never showy, always tasteful and completely infectious."
"...their more playfully bouncy tunes were infectious. These radio-friendly rockers wear their 70's rock influences on their sleeves, like a non-douchy Jet."
~ Michael Rietmulder
Pictures Of Then named one of the three best new bands in vita.mn's Are You Local? band search.

"An interesting Flaming Lips meets Dr. Dog vibe..."
"Unlike some albums that end up labored and dull, “And the Wicked Sea” has an emotional drive that never prods along."
"In the era of overwrought and over-arranged pop music, it's nice to have a little bit of uncomplicated Americanized Brit-pop." LAUNCH
"Distinguishing themselves from the pack...with the right breaks Pictures of Then could be a household name."
"Decidedly aware of the musical shoulders upon which they stand...what sets such acts apart is the proletarian everyman aspects of their music: there’s an earthiness, a connectedness to the soil."
HOW WAS THE SHOW
"I stood next to HWTS editor Bob Longmore at the Uptown Bar Friday night and tried to guess where these guys throwing quality song after quality song at us were from: Brooklyn, NY? LA? Nashville? They had the polish and confident stage presence of an out of town band seasoned by months of touring...However you try to peg them as sounding, their songs are always well-crafted and memorable. On stage they are dramatic without being pretentious. Bassist Larry Koszewski even pulled off a bass solo on a 5 string bass that might not have worked for a lesser band. "

RED GORILLA MUSIC FEST
"Pictures Of Then was one of the top performances I caught at this years festival. The band started with a full room and after they had been playing ten minutes the room was PACKED and you couldn't move from people outside the venue trying to get in. This band is amazing and they will be back every year for RedGorilla if I have my way. "

CROSSROADS MUSIC FEST
"We were thrilled to have Pictures of Then play the main stage at Crossroads 2008. They are, with out a doubt, one of the greatest talents out of the Midwest in the realm of indie-rock. Their fresh, open, and c
ollaborative spirit will take them far in this industry. They certainly left Central Iowa with a memorable impression and new life-long fans! " ~Heather Hansen - Crossroads Creator
"Pictures of Then formed in 2007 and immediately set to work finding a sonic balance between reverence for the past and vision of the future, fashioning a sound that reflected their aptly chosen name. The quartet's debut album, Crushed By Lights, has been widely acclaimed, earning comparisons to Pink Floyd and Smashing Pumpkins. On the stage the band swung with Glam/Pop abandon, channeling psychedelic Folk roots through howling Indie Rock branches, like Billy Corgan if he had been obsessed with Arnold Layne-era Pink Floyd, with little nods to Ziggy Stardust-era Bowie/Ronson along the way. They played a spirited and buzzy set that completely masked the exhaustion they felt at the end of their long and constrictive journey to Cincinnati. "

"Indie-rock fans have always found something to like about Pictures of Then...the band’s overall musical approach is neither stubbornly rooted in the past, nor based on some contrived, wash of futuristic sound."
